Our Shepherd Says, “My Sheep Are Mine” (Hymn)

So what, then, would we ever fear? / For all is well when Christ is near; / He shines, and none can darken. / He calls and leads through deathly shade; / We’re unafraid, / And to His voice we hearken.
Our Shepherd Says, “My Sheep Are Mine”: text by Andrew Richard; tune and setting by Nathanael Hahn. Sung by the Mount Hope Lutheran School Faculty Quartet: Hannah Engwall, Anna Hahn, Andrew Richard, Nathanael Hahn.

Hymn Text

Our Shepherd says, “My sheep are Mine;
I bought them with My life divine,
And by their names I name them.
For their sake I became a Lamb;
Their Lord I am.
None else will ever claim them.”

The devil threatens all the day
He seeks to snatch us sheep away
And scatter us from Jesus.
And yet we laugh because we stand
In Jesus’ hand,
So who could ever seize us?

With rod and staff our Shepherd fought.
His cross brought Satan’s schemes to naught
And wrought for us salvation.
From Jesus comfort ever flows;
His cross bestows
Full peace and consolation.

The Shepherd for us sheep was slain,
And yet His life did His remain.
He laid it down; He willed it.
For none to Him could life deny;
He chose to die:
Pursuing Death, He killed it.

So what, then, would we ever fear?
For all is well when Christ is near;
He shines, and none can darken.
He calls and leads through deathly shade;
We’re unafraid,
And to His voice we hearken.

When hearing Jesus’ voice we feast.
He satisfies, and want has ceased.
His Word is rich and living.
He also has a table spread:
His flesh is bread;
His blood is wine forgiving.

In Zion’s heights for length of days
On Jesus’ righteousness we graze;
Our cup is overflowing.
He wipes our tears when eyes grow dim.
We rest in Him,
As homeward we are going.
